Walking in CorsicaCorsica is a small island in the Mediterranean Sea that lies about 50 miles off the Tuscany coastline of Italy. Although Corsica is nearer to Italy, it is actually a region of France which is around 100 miles to the North. The official language in Corsica is French, but high percentage of Corsicans speaks the local language - Corsican or Corsu. The scenery in Corsica is truly breathtaking! The high mountain peaks are capped with snow during the winter months. Some of these peaks are close to 9000 feet, making Corsica the highest island in the Mediterranean Sea. These unique, stunning features make Corsica a walker’s paradise. Any experienced hiker will have heard on the famous GR20 in Corsica. This is supposedly one of the toughest walking trails in Northern Europe. It stretches north to south for approximately 120 miles on high level tracks and paths. Hikers travel to Corsica from all over Europe to walk the challenging GR20, but beware, this is not for novices! For a more leisurely walking holiday, Corsica offers hundreds of low and high level walking trails for all abilities.
Getting to CorsicaA number of airlines fly direct to Corsica from the major UK airports including Manchester, Gatwick, Birmingham and Edinburgh. The major routes fly into Bastia, Ajaccio and Calvi. Frequent ferry crossings are also available between Nice and the Corsican ports of Bastia and Calvi
