Am I too old for jeans?

This is a vexing question for many over 50s.

We were the first denim generation and boy oh boy did we love our jeans!

Do you remember lying in the bath wearing a new pair of jeans, shrinking them to achieve that perfect fit?

And when we look back on photographs from our youth it seems that we wore nothing but jeans – we had a pair for every occasion

But let’s face it, no matter how well we think we have aged there comes a point in our lives when we all ask ourselves “Am I too old for jeans?”

For most of us the answer is yes…..and no…..and maybe. Because when you’re over 50, looking good in denim all depends on style.

Here are a few tips

  • If you are still wearing the same style of jeans you wore thirty years ago you really need to think about updating – especially if your hourglass figure is now an apple!
  • Light blue denim rarely looks good on anyone over thirty  - dark blue, black or grey denim is much more forgiving
  • Stretch denim can be both comfortable and stylish
  • If you are carrying a little extra weight around your midriff it’s probably best to avoid low cut jeans. They may look fine when you are standing up but remember that at some stage you will have to sit down – not a good look!

So perhaps the answer is that we don’t have to give up denim completely when we hit 50 but we do need to adapt and make sure that the denim we wear is appropriate, stylish and flattering.
